Electric Daisy Carnival – New York
With all of the talent at Electric Daisy Carnival, it is difficult to say which set was truly my favorite. Some of my top sets include 12th Planet, Eric Prydz, Zeds Dead, Figure, Mark Knight, Cookie Monsta & Funtcase, Dash Berlin, and DJ Fresh. As you can see I have a wide open mind when it comes to genre mobility. I enjoy seeing a bit of each genre to get a better view of Electronic Dance Music as a whole.
Out of these acts, 12th Planet was the act that I highly anticipated, and, as always, he delivered. 12th Planet is one of the best in DnB and Dubstep and if you are interested in exploring the genre, he is the artist to see. Every set is high energy, mixing in Rap, Dubstep, and Reggae. His music is very dynamic and watching him have a great time on stage gets the crowd going every time.
The set I was most upset to miss was a tie between The Bloody Beetroots and Porter Robinson, both of which, I have seen multiple times. They are true talents. Porter has Language which never fails to evoke the crowd’s emotion, and that is just one of his massive hits. The Bloody Beetroots, while less mainstream was one of my favorite sets of Ultra Music Festival. They play a Live Set which is fairly rare and they mix in Electronic beats with several instruments including the drums, guitar, and keyboard. I heard their set was great, but I was at the Bass Pod seeing Crizzly for the first time, which was the act after DJ Fresh.
DJ Fresh was the sleeper set of the weekend for me. He truly has no boundaries. Considering my wide range of music I listen to, it was my favorite set of the weekend. He had complete control of the crowd and played everything from Rap to Rock, into Dubstep, Trap, and Progressive House. He really did whatever he wanted. At one point he had the entire crowd sitting down to jump in for the drop and everyone went crazy. Overall, it was a great weekend and we look forward to next year.
